MUIR BEACH PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Muir Beach is served by two public school districts, Mill Valley School District and   Tamalpais Union High School District.


MILLI VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT
Mill Valley School District is comprised of five elementary schools and one middle school with a total enrollment of approximately 2,700 students.  Students living in Muir Beach and the communities of Alto, Strawberry Point, Tamalpais Valley, Panoramic Ridge, Homestead Valley, and Mill Valley attend schools in the Mill Valley School District. 
TAMALPAIS UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT
Tamalpais Union High School District offers secondary school education to students advancing from ten elementary districts in Marin County.  There are three comprehensive high schools as well as two alternative high schools within the Tamalpais Union High School District.

 In 1998 Edna Maguire School was recognized as a California Distinguished School.  The rich ethnic makeup of the student body is unique. Students speak 14 different languages and there are more than 45 students whose primary language is not English. 
OLD MILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

As of 2006, there are 290 students at Old Mill in kindergarten through 5th grades, and 14 grade-level teachers assisted by subject-specific teachers and teacher's aides.  In 1998, Old Mill School won the California Distinguished School Award.  In 1925 Helen Keller, through her long-time teacher Anne Sullivan, addressed an audience of 200 at Old Mill School.

Park School was built to accommodate the hundreds of families that relocated to Marin after the 1906 earthquake and fires.  Student leadership is encouraged and supported through programs such as: Student Council, The Green Team (recycling), Peaceful Playground Coach, Student Service, and Cross-grade buddies.  Students use state of the art laptop computers for innovative classroom projects.  In 2002 Park Elementary School was designated as a California Distinguished School.
STRAWBERRY POINT SCHOOL

Strawberry Point School is unique in the Mill Valley School District. Within school grounds there is a living breathing tidal and seasonal wetland. This provides the opportunity to learn the science of wetland ecology, and to learn to become responsible stewards of their environment.  Class sizes consist of twenty or less students in grades kindergarten through third.

Tamalpais Valley Elementary School has a school population of 465 students, kindergarten through fifth grade. Their education program is supported by 23 regular education teachers (19 classrooms), 2 Learning Center teachers, a librarian, and 12 specialists for music, art, science, the Library/Media Center, P.E., dance, and technology.  Tamalpais Valley Elementary School was chosen as a California Distinguished School in 1997.

Mill Valley Middle School has been named a California Distinguished School Award four times.  The average class size, 22-24 students, is less than the state average of 29.  Mill Valley Middle School is a Mac-based learning environment. Students and staff have access to a wide range of technology in classrooms, labs and the library.

Tamalpais High School has a comprehensive curriculum including Honors and Advanced Placement classes, foreign languages, technical arts, and a Global Studies program that provides the opportunity for travel and language immersion.  Students from Stinson Beach, Bolinas, Mill Valley, Marin City, Muir Beach, and Sausalito attend Tamalpais High School.

Tamiscal is the independent study/ alternative high school that serves the students of the Tamalpais Union High School District. Its unique setting provides opportunities for learning for students who have health issues, significant off- campus activities, necessary employment, family obligations or learning styles that make attendance at a traditional school impractical.

San Andreas High School is the Tamalpais Union High School District's continuation/alternative education high school.  The purpose of this school is to provide an alternative learning environment for students who have difficulty attending a traditional high school.
